Balanced Scoring Leads Valley Past Demarest

With break soon approaching, many students at Pascack Valley have zoned out of schoolwork and have focused on the time off they are about to have.

The same could have been said for the Pascack Valley lacrosse team.

With a much anticipated game against Northern Highlands soon approaching, it would have been easy for the Indians to look past their immediate task: The Norsemen of Demarest

Instead, PV came out focused and locked in. Demarest stood no match as Pascack Valley cruised to a 15-4 victory on Wednesday afternoon.

“We don’t look ahead,” said Senior Ryan Foley. “We take it one game at a time.”

That mindset was shown early in the first quarter. Senior Mike Buldo Liccardi scored three of his four goals in the period and Valley sped out to an early 5-0 lead.

During the second stanza, it was Senior Captain Kevin Illian doing the scoring. Effective ball movement and precision passing gave the Indians wide-open shots at net.  On the defensive end, Ryan Foley and Nick Choman made sure any shot that the Norsemen took wouldn’t come without a consequence. After adding 5 more goals in the second, Pascack Valley took a 10-1 lead into intermission.

By this time, the rout was on. Just like in the opener against Bergen Tech, the Indians had their starters out for much of the fourth quarter.

Mike Buldo Liccardi led PV in scoring with an outstanding 5 goals. Nick Soravilla, Kevin Illian, and Zach Beja each contributed a hat trick for the Indians.

No matter how strong or weak the competition, Pascack Valley has picked up two wins and is off to a fantastic start.

Nick Soravilla said it best when asked about this team’s hot start.

“It’s great to get off to this start because we know we’re going to have to come out hot for Saturday.”

What is Saturday you ask?

That is when Pascack Valley faces their first real test of the year against the aforementioned Northern Highlands squad. The Indians fell short in this stage last year, but are more experienced and maybe even more talented than a year ago.

“Highlands is a great team,” added Soravilla.

Well Pascack Valley isn’t too shabby themselves.
