Daily Recap: Monday, April 1st

This marked the first day of the regular season and it sure did not disappoint. Although there was the good and the bad, opening day was nothing short of very entertaining. Lets see how each of our teams did.

Boys Lacrosse:

Pascack Valley 18, Bergen Tech 2

If there were ever a way to start off a season, this would be it.

Pascack Valley jumped out to a 6-0 lead after the first and extended that lead to 13-0 before halftime.

Seniors Nick Sunseri and Kevin Illian provided most of the scoring with some help from Zach Beja and Mike Buldo Liccardi.

The defense was superb as well, keeping the ball out of the defensive zone and giving the offense countless opportunities.

Not every game will be as easy as this one, but it certainly was a great start to the season.

Pascack Valley will look to build on this win Wednesday against Demarest.

Baseball:

Demarest 11, Pascack Valley 2

Although not the ideal start to a season, this is a game that Pascack Valley will have to build on.

The pitching should not be a problem throughout the season with kids such as Seniors Kyle McDonald and Tyler Gronek and Junior Ryan MacNaughton.

The bats are where there is some cause for concern. The team was only able to get across 2 runs in the opener and might struggle scoring runs throughout the season.

With strong pitching, run support would be a significant help to the team this season.

Record: 0-1

Next Game: Wednesday, April 3rd at 4:15 PM against Teaneck

Softball:

Demarest 5, Pascack Valley 1

As is the case on the majority of opening days, both Pascack Valley and Demarest had their aces on the mound Monday afternoon.

And it showed.

Through the first 5 innings, Pascack Valley managed only one run but allowed zero. Freshman star Alex Pleasic was mowing down the Demarest hitters with ease.

That all changed in the top of the 6th. With a few errors and a few hits, Demarest was able to put together a 5 run inning and take a 5-1 lead into the 7th.

Although Valley had the top of the order up, they were unable to put any sort of rally together and ended up falling by a score of 5-1.

What the score does not indicate is how dominate Pleasic was before the 6th inning. If she can pitch like that for the majority of games, Pascack Valley will be in good shape.

The Girls also need to start swinging the bats. More run support will give the talented freshman more confidence because she won’t feel as though she needs to always make the perfect pitch.

Despite the loss, it was a solid effort to start the season and one that the Indians should build on.

Record: 1-0
